TOAC Chat Room Guidelines.

Please be kind and treat others with respect. Remember that people of all ages and social backgrounds participate in chat, and we hope that this can be a happy meeting place where differences can be over-looked. We wish for TOAC Chat Room to be a safe place for survivors to meet and talk. The SOLES chat was specifically created for survivors of law enforcement suicides. Family members and friends, who are bereaved from the loss of a loved one who worked in law enforcement, may join the chat for support and friendship.

A channel operator or moderator is someone who is given that little @ sign next to their nickname. This allows that person to help maintain the guidelines for the chat room. They have been given the authority to warn and, if necessary, Kick/Ban anyone that exhibits offensive, vulgar, disruptive, or any other behavior that is deemed inappropriate. If you have any problems or questions, don't hesitate to ask one of the Ops. They are there to help.

Helpful hints:

  • Maintain consistency with your "Nick" (nickname), so that others will get to know you.

  • When a newcomer arrives in the chat room, please take the time to stop what you're doing and take a few moments to "welcome" them and answer any questions that they may have. Remember your "first time" in a chat room?

  • The key to chatting is to simply be "POLITE." If you disagree with something a person says, discuss the issue tactfully or take it to a private room. Do not flame (verbally attack) the person. This can create a very unpleasant experience for everyone in the chat room and should be avoided.

  • Last but not least, chat acronyms are abbreviations for common phrases that will help get your actions or feelings across to others in the chat room, with minimal typing. Here is a short list of the ones that you will encounter, with their meanings to give you a little head start!
